LA POMA: Devil’s bridge & Inca’s barn
An early start to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Upper Calchaqui Valley and also to discover part of the Andean Main Road or Qhapac Ñ
an, recently recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
We leave the city of Salta at 7 am passing through the tobacco fields of the Lerma´s Valley until we get into the Escopie Gorge to start crossing the sub-Andean Mountains Range that divides these two valleys. Thanks to Bishop´s Slope we reach the highest point on the road (3455 m) where we might see condors, the stunning Snowy Cachi (6380 m) representing the Eastern Andes Mountain Range and the Cardones (type of cactus) National Park will give a spectacular frame to the scene. The outstanding adventure moment will be in the Devil´s Bridge, a tunnel made by the river in the volcanic rocks that had covered it’s natural course. Another important moment of the tour its to get to see the Incas Barns part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site “Main Andean Road”, with our forgetting the visits to the village of La Poma and Cachi of course.
